| History of Faces
In 2001 Rose began a large and on-going personal piece of work.
Rose asked children aged between 8 and 16 to be photographed and insisted that they neither wore makeup nor smiled. "I find that images of children not smiling are more intriguing and so reflect a greater depth of character" she explains, "The thought-provoking expressions seem to blur the boundaries between child and adult."
Each child is photographed in exactly the same way, yet each shows a powerful sense of individuality.
She now has hundreds of portraits of children in the collection.
In February 2002 the first major exhibition of FACES was held at Norden Arts Centre in Maidenhead, Berkshire.
Here are some comments made by visitors to the exhibition.
